On June 26, 2025, an international policy dialogue titled “Advancing Action on AMR – Sustainable Policies, Financing, and Global Partnerships” was held at the Residence of the Danish Ambassador to Japan. Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Manager Ms. Yui Kohno, participated as a moderator.
The dialogue brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including governments representatives, research institutions, healthcare professionals, international organizations, development agencies, the private sector, and civil society from Japan, Denmark and the United Kingdom. Discussions on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) were approached holistically through the lens of One Health and international collaboration.
In the opening remarks and keynote address, speakers underscored the intrinsic links between AMR and pressing global challenges such as health equity, climate change, food security, and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Special attention was given to the unique challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), the importance of capacity building, the enhancement of surveillance systems, and the practical application of the One Health approach. The subsequent panel discussion facilitated vibrant exchanges on a range of topics, including best practices and challenges in policies around AMR, support for the development and implementation of national action plans in LMICs, strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration under the One Health approach, and innovative, sustainable blended financing models. Throughout the session, participants shared concrete examples and explored future directions for the fight against AMR.
From July 2025, Denmark will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) for the second half of 2025. Under Denmark’s leadership, further momentum in advancing international collaboration on AMR, particularly among Japan, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and the EU is anticipated.
